BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (10/12/2026) -- The Titans captured five matches and halved another, but couldn't get the extra point needed for the win as the University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's golf team started Central Michigan's Motor City Match-Up on Monday.
The combined team event saw Green Bay take the event's opening match 6.5-5.5 at the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Michigan.
The men won two of their six matches and tied another, while the women won three bouts.
Senior
Gabriella Tapp, junior
Chloe Fong, and sophomore
Sadie Kondel all contributed wins for the women.
Tapp won three of her first four holes and seemed to be in cruise control through 16 with a two-stroke lead. She then lost 17, but battled to take 18 for the 2-up win.
Fong also had an early lead, but was tied with six holes remaining. She then won four and five to jump ahead, but lost six and seven. She recovered, though, besting her foe on eight and nine for a 2-up score.
Kondel staged a great comeback victory after falling behind by four through six holes, and the deficit stayed that way on the back nine. On the turn, she came alive, winning one, two, and four to trim her Green Bay opponent's lead to one. She then won six and seven to take the lead and halved eight and nine to secure the point.
Sophomore Peyton Lawley and junior Harshan Juttu posted big 5 & 4 tallies for the men. Lawley dropped his first hole but quickly recovered in dominating fashion, winning five of the next eight holes to build a 4-up lead after nine. He later upped that advantage to five when the match was called.
Juttu never trailed, taking the first hole and going up by two just three holes in. He led by two through nine and then won the match by winning three of the first five on the front nine.
Senior Mason Sokolowski tied his match with a come-from-behind effort. He dropped two of his first three holes but then won the next two. It was nip and tuck after that, but he once again fell behind by two with four holes left. Sokolowski then won the sixth hole, halved number seven, and won eight to tie heading into the last hole, which both players parred to split the point.
Freshman Christian Helzer and senior Ethan Oblak each had matches that went the distance, but could not get any points. Helzer dropped his affair by two as Green Bay took the final two holes for the win, while Oblak trimmed a four-stroke deficit to two but couldn't halve his affair.
Sophomore
Ava Wisinski got down by as many as three through seven holes, but she never quit, battling back to knot it up with one hole left, but she was downed on the final hole.
Freshman
Kassandra Rombouts had a back-and-forth battle all round long, but also fell on the final hole.
Detroit Mercy will take on Alabama State tomorrow in the event's consolation match, set to tee off at 10:00 a.m.
