BUFFALO (2/10/2026) -- Freshman
Alison Smiley posted her second-straight hat trick, and the senior tandem of
Libby Cuckler and
Alyssa Jarvis registered five points, but an early run by Canisius proved to be the story as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team suffered a 23-6 setback on Tuesday afternoon.
Smiley also had a caused turnover and a ground ball. Jarvis tallied two goals and an assist, and Cuckler added a goal, an assist, a career-tying two caused turnovers, and two GB's.Â
The Titans (0-2) opened up the scoring as Smiley powered one between the pipes on the free position attempt just five minutes into the game.
Canisius (1-0) rattled off eight in a row after that, despite seven saves from redshirt freshman
Emily Coyne, who was making her first career start in net.Â
Cuckler found Smiley for a goal at the 10:31 mark in the second, and five minutes later, Jarvis located Smiley, and she tickled the twine to make it 11-3. UDM added one more in the period off a free position goal for Jarvis, and it was a 14-4 game at the break.
Jarvis and Cuckler then had back-to-back tallies in the fourth for the offensive output on the day.
Redshirt freshman
Ava Bandi picked up a team-high three ground balls, while freshman
Chloe Sheader had a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Coyne played the first half, registered those seven saves, and sophomore
Kaitlynn Hedrick had three stops in the second half.
The Titans will have a couple of weeks off before they head to Ohio State on Feb. 27.Â
