INDIANAPOLIS (2/27/2026) -- For the first time in school history in the indoor season, the Titans have earned a prestigious award as University of Detroit Mercy track and field freshman
Joey DeCasas was named the #HLTF Indoor Alfreeda Goff Athlete Of The Year.
He is the first male indoor winner in school history and just the fourth overall, after Matt Groh (2003), Colin Cashner (2015), and Ben Kendell (2019) claimed the accolade in the outdoor campaign.
DeCasas has seven top-three finishes among three events this season, including his best effort of a league-best 7.58 meters in the long jump at Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational, a school record and currently tied for 43rd in the nation.
He earned gold in the long jump at Michigan's Silverston Invitational with a mark of 7.34m and was also second in the triple jump at 12.59m.Â
DeCasas won the long jump at Eastern Michigan's Bob Parks Memorial with a leap of 7.22m, and was again second in the triple jump at 13.36m. He also claimed runner-up in the long jump at the SVSU Classic, leaping 6.72m.
The Titans will begin the Horizon League Championships tomorrow, as the league meets at Youngstown State.Â
