Postseason Begins At Horizon League Indoor Championships This Weekend

Senior Anthony Yip and the Titans will look for medals this weekend.

DETROIT (2/26/2026) -- The training season is over, and now it is time to focus on career marks and finishes as the University of Detroit Mercy men's track and field team will head to Youngstown State this weekend for the Horizon League Indoor Championships.

The two-day championships will start on Saturday, Feb. 28, and conclude on Mar. 1, at the Watson and Tressel Training Site in Youngstown State, Ohio.

Both days will begin at 9:00 a.m., with pentathlon and heptathlon events. Field events will get underway at Noon on Saturday and 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, while running events are set for 3:00 p.m. on day one and 1:00 p.m. on day two.

Fans can watch most of the championships on ESPN+. There will also be a live results page.

Last year at the indoor league meet, the Titans were fifth with 38 points, including one first-place finish in senior Joshua Otten, who won the mile in 4:13.53. Detroit Mercy also saw the 4x400-meter relay squad of Mike Ferguson, Nicholas Johnson, Jaden McKenzie, and Otten claim bronze.

Several Titans rank among the league's top 10 heading into the HL showdown.

Freshman Joey DeCasas leads the way as he is tops in the Horizon League and tied for 43rd in the nation in the high jump at 7.58 meters. Freshman Nickolas Henson is right behind him, fourth in the league at 7.05m.

Freshman Colin Murray is fourth in the 5,000m (14:30.23), seventh in the 3,000m (8:21.57), and ninth in the mile (4:11.63). Otten is eighth in the mile at 4:11.63, and junior Christopher Russelburg is eighth in the 5,000m with a time of 14:53.05.

Freshman Deon Robertson is tied for seventh in the high jump with a leap of 2.00m. McKenzie is eighth in the 400m, clocking a 49.05, and freshman Angelo Finnie Jr. is 10th in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.39.

UDM has a pair of HL indoor titles in its history, winning it all in 1996 and sharing a championship in 2000, while earning runner-up in 1995, 2001, and 2011.

The red, white and blue have won 53 individual events and 10 relays in its conference history between the Horizon League and the Missouri Valley in the 1950's.
