Trinity Fessler hit 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI, run scored, and a walk, while sophomore
Abby Klaft went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI single as Detroit Mercy's three-run seventh inning rally came up short in an 8-4 setback to Texas A&M Corpus Christi to conclude play at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic on Sunday.
Freshman
Jenna Higgins went 2-for-2 with a run. Sophomore
Madeline Hallman had an RBI single, with junior
Jada Davis going 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. Freshman
Aubrey Myer also went 1-for-1.
Recap:
• The Islanders got on the board first with an RBI double in the first inning.
• Texas A&M CC moved ahead 3-0 off a sacrifice fly followed by a double steal for an unearned run.
• Fessler delivered an RBI single to score Higgins in the bottom of the third inning, pulling the Titans closer at 3-1.
• The Islanders added a three-run double in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-1 lead.
• Texas A&M CC posted an RBI double in the sixth, and a bases-loaded walk for an unearned run in the top of the seventh to move ahead 8-1.
• Detroit Mercy (3-11) didn't go down without a fight in the bottom of the seventh inning.
• Fessler drew a bases-loaded walk, followed by RBI singles from Klaft and Hallman, cutting the lead in half at 8-4. However, the Titans left the bases loaded on a pop-up to end the game.
