Trinity Fessler hit her first home run of the season with a three-run shot as Detroit Mercy fell 8-3 to Big Ten foe Northwestern to conclude play at the NKU Tournament on Saturday morning at Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field.
Junior
Jada Davis recorded the only other hit for the Titans, along with a walk and a run scored. Sophomore
Allison Fluker also drew a walk.
Recap:
• The game was scoreless over the first two innings.
• Fessler's three-run shot scored Davis and sophomore
Madeline Hallman, giving UDM a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
• Northwestern pulled within a run in the bottom half with a two-run homer.
• The Wildcats tied the game at 3-3 with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.
• NU broke the game open in the sixth inning with another solo home run, followed by a two-run double, RBI double, and a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to move ahead 8-3 for good.
• The Titans were retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
The Titans will play their third consecutive game against Big Ten competition at Michigan State on Wednesday, March 14, at 5 p.m.
