FLORENCE, ALA. (3-8-26) - Freshman
Savannah Schultz hit a pair of home runs while sophomore
Wendy Ketola hit her first career homer as Detroit Mercy had leads heading into the bottom of the seventh inning in both games at North Alabama. However, the Lions got back-to-back three-run walk-off home runs to win 5-4 and 5-3 in a doubleheader sweep on Sunday afternoon at Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium.
On the day, Schultz went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, RBI, and run in game one and 1-for-2 with a homer, run scored in game two. She also tossed a complete game with two strikeouts in the nightcap.
Freshman
Hannah Schlachter hit a combined 3-for-7 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. Sophomore
Natalie Babcock hit 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI, while senior
Trinity Fessler went 2-for-4 in game one. Freshman
Jenna Higgins also went 2-for-4 with an RBI in game two.
Sophomore
Erin Flynn went the distance on the circle in game one with two strikeouts.
Game 1 Recap:
• The Lions got on the board in the bottom of the first off an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
• The Titans drew even as Babcock delivered an RBI single to score Schlachter in the top of the second.
• Babcock struck again in the top of the fourth with a sac fly to plate Schlachter, giving UDM a 2-1 lead.
• Ketola's first career homer came in the top of the fifth, moving the Titans ahead 3-1.
• UNA gotta run back with an RBI double in the bottom half to pull closer at 3-2.
• Schultz belted her second home run of the season with a solo shot, giving the Titans a 4-2 advantage.
• The Lions' Briley Dover then hit a walk-off three-run home run for a 5-4 win.
Game 2 Recap:
• Sophomore
Abby Klaft took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Higgins, giving UDM a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
• UDM took a 2-0 lead off an RBI single up the middle to score Higgins in the bottom of the second.
• UNA cut the deficit to 2-1 off a sacrifice fly in the third inning
Schultz connected on her second home run of the day in the top of the fifth, moving UDM's lead back to a two-run advantage at 3-1.
• The Lions once again closed the gap to a single run off a solo homer in the sixth at 3-2.
• Down to their last strike with two runners on base, UNA got a game-winning three-run walk-off homer this time from LauraLeigh Wheeler for a 5-3 win.
