Wendy Ketola went 2-for-3, belting her fifth home run of the season as Detroit Mercy dropped the Metro Series finale, 7-1, at arch-rival Oakland on Saturday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field.
Senior
Trinity Fessler hit 1-for-2 with a walk, while junior
Claire Borg went 1-for-1, and freshman
Jenna Higgins hit 1-for-4, accounting for four of Detroit Mercy's (14-24, 6-6 HL) five total hits.
After winning her last five consecutive starts, freshman
Savannah Schultz picked up the loss in the circle, going 5.0 innings, allowing five runs.
Recap:
• Oakland (23-16, 7-5 HL) got on the board first with a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead.
• The Titans got a run back as Ketola belted her homer to center field in the top of the third.
• The Golden Grizzlies added a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth to move back ahead 3-1.
• In the top of the fifth, UDM got runners to second and third but were left stranded.
• OU then added another pair of RBI singles to take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
• OU plated two unearned runs off a pair of wild pitches in the sixth inning en route to the series-clinching win.
Detroit Mercy travels to Northern Kentucky for a three-game set beginning on Friday, April 24, at 3 p.m.
