DETROIT (5-1-26) - Sophomores
Wendy Ketola and
Abby Klaft each hit a home run as Detroit Mercy pounded out 15 hits with four players recording two RBI to build an 11-4 lead, but they could not hold on as Robert Morris rallied for a 12-11 win in the series opener on Friday evening at Buysse Ballpark. Despite the setback, the Titans qualified for the #HLSB Championship Tournament for the first time since 2019.
Ketola finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, while junior
Liv Peterson also went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Freshman
Savannah Schultz hit 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, a walk, and a run scored, with freshman
Hannah Schlachter going 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a bases-loaded RBI walk.

Trinity Fessler also had an RBI each. Freshman
Jenna Higgins led the Titans, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk, while junior
Jada Davis went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and a walk.
Recap:
• RMU took a 3-0 lead in the first off a three-run homer.
• In the bottom half, Schultz posted a two-run single followed by an RBI single from Ketola and an RBI ground-out from Borg, giving the Titans a 5-3 lead.
• Peterson added an RBI single in the second, followed by Kraft's solo shot in the third inning for a 7-4 lead.
• The Titans went to work in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring four runs off Klaft's solo homer, an RBI single from Fessler, an RBI double from Peterson, and an RBI walk from Schlachter to take a commanding 11-4 lead.
• With the seven-run lead, UDM needed just a run to end the game with the bases loaded. However, the Titans couldn't plate the game-winning tally as the inning ended in a ground-out.
• With new life, RMU posted six runs in the top of the sixth inning off an RBI double, followed by a two-run home run, a solo homer, an RBI single, and an RBI groundout to pull within a run at 11-10.
• The Colonials then hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh and retired the Titans in order, ending the game in the bottom half.
