Biography

2017: Did not play in any games due to an injury… Selected the Malcom Carron, S.J. Education Award winner at the University Honors Convocation, presented to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average in the Education program for seven terms… A member of the Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll…  Earned a spot on the MAAC All-Academic Team… Played in 40 games as a Titan and totaled four points on three goals and an assist, 36 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

2016: Played in all 12 games and tallied three points on two goals and an assist along with four ground balls… Started the year with a ground ball at #11/12 Ohio State, at Mercer and at #1/2 Notre Dame… Found the back of the net against #19/17 Marquette… Tallied a career-high two points on a goal and an assist at Canisius… Earned a spot on the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the MAAC All-Academic Team.

2015: Appeared in 14 games with one start… Corralled 15 ground balls and had five caused turnovers… Led the team with seven penalties totaling eight minutes… Had a ground ball in the win over Ohio State… Forced a turnover in three straight games against Robert Morris, No. 17/16 Marquette and at Bellarmine… Also tied his career high with three ground balls against the Knights… Ended with a caused turnover and ground ball at Air Force… Picked up three ground balls at Siena… Forced a turnover and scooped up a GB against Canisius… Posted his first career goal and tied his career best with three ground balls in the MAAC Championship semifinals versus Quinnipiac… Earned a place on the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2014: Saw action in all 14 games… Collected 17 ground balls and tied for fourth on the team with eight caused turnovers… Had a ground ball and caused turnover in his first collegiate game in the season-opening win over Mercer… Posted two caused turnovers and two ground balls against Bellarmine… Recorded two caused turnovers and a ground ball against Marquette… Picked up two ground balls versus Quinnipiac and a home victory over Marist.

2013: Did not see any action in any contests.

Prior To Detroit: A standout offensive player as a prep on the lacrosse field, he earned four letters in lacrosse and a pair in football and hockey at Seaholm… Totaled 88 career goals in high school, including a fantastic senior season with 50 goals and 36 assists as he guided Birmingham United to a regional championship and a state semifinals appearance… With those numbers, he would go on to earn All-American accolades by US Lacrosse, First Team All-State and First Team All-Area as well as All-Region and honorable mention All-Midwest… Was a two-time team MVP and team captain, and was named Third Team All-State and honorable mention All-Midwest as a junior… Also tabbed the team's MVP, All-League, All-County and All-Metro wide receiver as a senior.

Personal: Son of Missy and John Hess …Has two sisters… Lists his biggest thrill in sports as winning two regional championships in lacrosse… Chose Detroit because he wanted to continue playing lacrosse at the highest level… An Education major.
