INDIANAPOLIS – The Detroit Titans men's basketball team was picked to finish runner-up in the 2010 Horizon League Preseason Poll, released Tuesday by league officials.  UDM was the second choice behind unanimous top choice and national finalist from a season ago, Butler University.  In addition, Detroit juniors Eli Holman and Chase Simon were lauded with Preseason All-League Second Team accolades.

Butler grabbed all 48 first-place votes in a polling of the conference Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and media members, finishing with 480 total points.  Detroit accumulated 381 votes, edging Cleveland State (376).  Valparaiso was fourth in the voting (312) with Milwaukee (259), Wright State (256) and Green Bay (242) bunched at the five through seven spots.  Loyola (146), UIC (121) and Youngstown State (67) rounded out the poll.

The All-League Teams were led by a pair of Butler returnees who helped the Bulldogs march all the way to the NCAA Championship game last season.  Shelvin Mack was the top vote-getter for League Player of the Year.  Detroit had two players among the nominees with Holman and Simon each garnering second team recognition.  Holman was the league leader in rebounds (8.9 rpg) and blocked shots (2.5 bpg) a year ago and Simon led the Titans with a 14.0 scoring average.

UDM tips-off its season on Oct. 30 with a home exhibition game against Hillsdale College.  The regular season slate commences Nov. 13 at New Mexico.
