Women's Golf Finishes Competition at Titan Invite

The Titan Invitational concluded Tuesday afternoon at the Western Golf & Country Club in Redford, MI, with Ferris State University's women's golf team coming in first with a team score of 621.

Detroit finished fourth (661), while Youngstown State (626) placed second and Dayton was next with a score of 657.

UDM sophomore Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) competed as an individual and finished fifth after posting a 36-hole total of 156 (76-80). Sophomore Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) was the Titans top team finisher as she was just two shots behind Stefan to end in sixth place. Detroit freshman Jackie DeMarco (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) fired a 165 (84-81) to tie for 12th place, while teammate #Liz Zouzal# (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) was five strokes behind to place 19th.

The individual title had to be decided on a playoff since Samantha Formeck (YSU), Kathyrn Rogner (YSU) and Meghan Hunter (FSU) all posted individual scores of 152. Hunter was eliminated after the first hole because of a bogey, while the teammates from YSU each ended that hole with par. Formeck went on to birdie the second hole to capture the individual Titan Invitational title.

The next and final Fall competition for the Detroit Titans is the Dayton Invite in Ohio on Oct. 27-28.
