Women's Golf Bringing Home a Trophy From Dayton

Final Results

The Detroit women's golf team ended its fall season on a good note Tuesday afternoon at the Dayton Invitational as the Titans finished in a tie for second, out of 10 teams, at the NCR Country Club.

UDM ended with a team score of 645 to tie with Bowling Green, while Cincinnati was crowned the champion after shooting a two-day total of 624. There was a three-way tie for fourth place with Dayton, Ohio and Evansville all finishing with a team score of 652.

"It is exciting for our team to bring a trophy home from the last weekend of competition this fall season," said Detroit head women's golf coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. "The girls grinded very hard to make sure that they did not lose ground today and I am proud of them for their effort."

Junior Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) was Detroit's top finisher as she tied for fifth after firing a 36-hole total of 158 (78-80). Sophomore Jackie DeMarco (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) also placed in the top 10 with a combined total of 160 (79-81) to finish in a tie for ninth, while junior Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) shaved off five strokes the second day to tie for 13th (83-78—161).

The Titans will return to competition on the links when their spring season starts in 2010.
