Titans Grab Second Place At Women's Golf Spring Opener

Final Results

The Titan women's golf team closed out a successful Spring Break trip by vaulting into second place on the final day of competition at the North/South Intercollegiate, hosted by Horizon League rival Butler in Jacksonville.

Fourth after the first day of play following an opening-round 316, Detroit turned on the jets on the back nine Tuesday, improving overall by nine shots to finish with a 623 total as they moved past St. John's and Jackson State in the team standings. Only eventual winner Bethune-Cookman (303-304-607) topped the Titans on the final leader board.

Individually, UDM sophomore Alainna Stefan tied for third place with a 77-73-150 final tally. Classmate Marni Achterhoff was not too far behind at 78-76-154, good for an eight-place tie.

“We're bringing a trophy home and it feels good,” coach Terri Anthony-Ryan said. “We got off to a poor start today and it was good to see the team bounce back on the back side. It was a good turnaround. Alainna played steady the whole way, and Marni really turned it on down the stretch for us.”

The Titans now wait for their next assignment, teeing it up March 23-24 at the Butler Invitational.
