The Detroit Titans softball team completed play at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, FL with an 8-1 set back to Maine on Friday afternoon.
Detroit (3-12) entered the today's contest averaging 5.25 runs over the last four games but had trouble cracking Maine's defense with only one run on six hits while the Black Bears recorded eight runs on 16 hits.
Six different players recorded a hit for the Titans led by junior Katelyn McCutcheon (Pleasant Ridge, MI/Ferndale) who drove in UDM's only run in the fourth inning to cut Maine's lead to 2-1.
Maine eventually pulled away over the final three innings adding six runs to secure the win.
“Overall I am pleased with our offensive production this week at the Rebel Games and this was a very valuable experience for our team,” said head coach Bob Wilkerson. “Our record down here was not indicative of how we played. We proved that we can score more than four runs per game which should give any team a chance to win a Division I contest. We were competitive in every game and had some great opportunities but were very erratic defensively which cost us. We will have to work on cutting down our errors and fine tune our pitching before we head into league play.”
The Titans get some time off before opening Horizon League play at Valparaiso on March 21 at 1:00 p.m.
