The Detroit Titans softball team earned its first conference win in convincing fashion with a 7-1 road victory over Youngstown State on Wednesday night at McCune Park.
 
Junior Jill Perry (Ortonville, MI/ Brandon) sent the tone for Detroit (5-21, 1-6 HL) from the circle holding Youngstown State (4-20, 2-5 HL) to only one run on five hits to pick up her third win of the season.
 
8-of-9 UDM batters in the line up recorded a hit as the team tallied seven runs on 13 hits. Sophomore Ellen Sinclair (Chatham, ON/Chatham-Kent) who was solid at the plate nearly hitting for the cycle going 3-for-4 with four RBI including a three-run home run, triple and single with two runs scored.
 
Sophomore Breana Sesoko (Anaheim Hills, CA/Canyon) went 2-for-4 with two RBI courtesy a two-run home run while senior Jacqueline Nortman (Groves, TX/Msgr. Kelly Catholic) and sophomore Chelsea Lathrop (Colleyville, TX/Grapevine) also each hit 2-for-4.
 
UDM took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as Sinclair tripled down the right field line to score junior Erica Houthoofd (Unionville, MI/Unionville Sebewaing Area). Sinclair then scored on an error on the YSU leftfielder.
 
The Titans broke the game open mainly via the long ball in the fourth inning with five runs on seven hits to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Sesoko hit a two-run shot over the left field fence to bring home junior Jessica Liebner (Ortonville, MI/Brandon) soon followed by Sinclair's three-run homer to score Lathrop and freshman Rachel Copple (Dearborn Heights, MI/Allen Park Cabrini).
 
The Titans and Penguins conclude their series with a doubleheader on Thursday, April 2 at 1 p.m.
