The University of Detroit Mercy women's golf team will compete at the Horizon League Championship this weekend, beginning on Saturday, at the Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, KY. The field will feature six teams, including Butler, Detroit, Cleveland State, Green Bay, Loyola and Youngstown State.

Sophomore Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) heads into this weekend's championship averaging a team-best 79.9 stroke average. Stefan has garnered five top 10 finishes thus far this season for Detroit, has placed in the top 20 for seven events and her lowest 18-hole round total (73) came at the North/South Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, FL, back in March.

The other Titans competing this weekend are senior Jenny Kubert (Livonia, MI/Stevenson) and junior Alex Aversa (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova), along with sophomores Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) and Liz Zouzal (Windsor, ON/Holy Names).

Last season, Butler captured the championship, while Detroit placed third at the Plum Creek Golf Club in Carmel, IN. The Titans top finisher in 2008 was senior Rachel McHenry (Livonia, MI/Stevenson) who tied for fifth (241), while then senior Mandi Dupuis placed was one stroke behind to place seventh (242). With McHenry and Dupuis each landing in the top 10, both earned 2008 Horizon League All-Tournament honors. In addition, Dupuis, McHenry and then senior Ashley Hamilton were all named to the all-conference squad.

The best finish for the 2008-09 Titans heading into this weekend, was second place, out of 11 teams, at the North/South Intercollegiate.
