Titan Women Finish Fifth In First Fall Golf Outing

Full Stats

Their first outing of the fall season found the Titan women's golfers finishing in fifth place Tuesday at the conclusion of the Chicago State PTSIR Performance Classic.

Detroit had posted a solid opening-round tally of 320 on Monday as it stood in third place after 18 holes, but was unable to keep that momentum going in Tuesday's windy conditions, closing with a 343 at the Lost Marsh Golf Club in Hammond, IN.

Defending tournament medalist Alainna Stefan continued to find Lost Marsh to her liking as she paced the Titans with a 78-83-161 card. That allowed the UDM junior to finish in ninth place at the end of the 36-hole event.

Marni Achterhoff was next in line for Detroit in 17th place (79-86-165).

“This was our first tournament of the year and all of the other teams had played once or twice already. That's not an excuse, but it takes a while to get back into competition mode,” coach Terri Anthony-Ryan said. “It was Collette (Hansen)'s first college tournament ever as a freshman, and Rachel (McHenry)'s first tournament after redshirting last season, and I look for it to become easier for them as we move through the fall.”

The Titans will return to the practice tee this week, and then get back into action next Monday and Tuesday at the Cincinnati Fall Classic.
