Detroit Claims Fourth, Stefan Sixth At Akron

Zippy Invitational Full Results

With 2010 Horizon League medalist Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) leading the way, the Detroit women's golf team was able to move up a spot to take fourth at the Zippy Invitational, held at the Par 72, 6,025-yard Rosemont Country Club in Fairlawn, OH.

The Titans made up four strokes on fourth-place Ohio and then some as UDM finished with a 56-hole total of 972 (325, 323, 324), three strokes ahead of the Bobcats and just three strokes behind Bucknell for third. The red, white and blue also finished ahead of in-state rival Oakland and HL foe Cleveland State. Host Akron won the event with a 950.

Stefan was one of three Detroit golfers to place in the top 20 as she topped the squad with a 236 (78, 81, 77) for a share of sixth. The two-time All-Horizon League honoree ended the tournament by shooting a 5-over 77 on the final 18.

Freshman Lindsey Lammers (Milan, MI/Milan) was just outside the top 10 as she finished 11th with a 240 (85, 76, 79), while sophomore Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) tied for 16th carding a 243 (78, 79, 86).

The women return to action next week as the Titans will once again visit the Buckeye State, this time by playing in the Dayton Invitational. The two-day, 56-hole tournament will begin on Monday, Oct. 18, at the NCR North Course in Kettering.
