Women's Golfers Finish 11th At William & Mary

The Titan women's golfers saved their best for last as they improved two strokes over the opening round and maintained their hold on 11th place Sunday at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, VA.

Junior Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) shot a closing round of 81 to pace the Titans on Day Two in the 21-team tournament hosted by William & Mary at the Ford's Colony Country Club. She finished with a two-day total of 164 to claim a share of 40th place on the individual leader board.

Senior Alex Aversa (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) led the Titans over the two days combined as she finished with an 80-82-162 card, which earned her a tie for 30th.

Host William & Mary won the tournament with a two-day tally of 612. Detroit (330-328-658) was six strokes behind 10th-place Siena, and eight ahead of Lehigh, its closest pursuer.

“We got off to a better start today and we played a lot better overall than we did the first round,” coach Terri Anthony-Ryan said. “The girls knew that Marni (Achterhoff) was playing sick, and all of them did their best to pick up the slack. Marni gave us a counting score (83) today, which says a lot about how hard she played for the team.”

UDM will return to action April 2-3 when it hosts the Titans Invitational at Western Golf and Country Club in Redford.
