Women's Golfers Finish Seventh At Bowling Green

Final Results

The Titans finished where they started the weekend in women's golf, ending up seventh Sunday at the Bowling Green Falcon Invitational after beginning the day's final round in the same position.

Scoring-wise, though, the Titans made big improvement from cold day one to day two, as they followed Saturday's 345 team total with a 323, and missed catching sixth-place Eastern Illinois by just six shots.

Junior Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) led UDM's individuals as she finished in a tie for 19th place with an 83-82-165 card.

As it turned out, three others Titan starters saw their scores drop from day one to day two, and the most dramatic improvements were made by senior Alex Aversa (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and junior Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores). Both of those Detroit golfers opened the tournament with a round of 89 before shaving 10 strokes on Sunday, and their 89-79-168 totals earned them a tie for 30th place.

Toledo
led wire-to-wire to take the team title, while Detroit's finish put it ahead of two other Horizon League entrants as Cleveland State ended up ninth and Valparaiso 10th

The Titans now turn their attention to post-season play as, for the first time, the Horizon League women's champion will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals. The women's conference championship will be played at Kearney Hill Links in Lexington, KY, next Saturday and Sunday.
