Junior
Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) held on to her lead and the Titan women's golf team gave themselves an early Easter present as UDM won the two-round Detroit Invitational on Saturday on the Par 72 Western Golf & Country Club in Redford.
Detroit shot a 637 (314-323) in the two-day event, beating runner-up IUPUI, who totaled a 647 (326-321), by seven strokes. Findlay (658), Northwood (700) and Madonna (731) rounded out the field.
Stefan carded a 154 (75-79) to edge out IUPUI's Jordan Woods by one (77-78).
The Titans also placed two other golfers in the top 5 and four in the top 10. Senior
Alex Aversa (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) was third with a 157 (77-80) total, while senior
Rachel McHenry (Livonia, MI/Stevenson) tallied an 80 for the second straight day to finish with a fifth-place score of 160.
Junior
Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) earned 10th with a 166 (82-84), while topping the tournament in Par 3 scoring with a 2.83 average. Freshman
Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) had a good showing of her own at home, sharing 13th place with a 172 (87-85).
Detroit had two individuals play with sophomore
Jackie DeMarco (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) tying for 16th (176) and freshman
Allison Sears (Clio, MI/Powers) taking 24th with a 181. Sears also tied for a tournament-best four birdies.
The ladies will have next week off before hitting the links at the BGSU Falcon Invitational on April 17-18.
