HL Champion Titan Women’s Golfers Sign Two Prospects

Detroit Titans women's golf coach Terri Anthony-Ryan added to her Horizon League Championship team's roster with today's signing of a pair of talented prospects for 2010-11 – Brooke Adamczak (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) and Christina Thorne (Kingston, ON/Bayridge) – to letters of intent.

They newest Titans add to a recruiting class that began in the fall with the signing of All-State Dream Team selection Lindsey Lammers (Milan, MI/Milan).

“First off, all of the girls are excellent students. They will uphold our outstanding academic record here,” coach Anthony-Ryan said. “And on the course, we expect all of them to compete for playing time immediately.”

Thorne had a number of top finishes in 2010 summer play. She finished seventh at the Ontario Junior Girls' Championship, improving on her 22nd place finish in 2008. She placed 45th at the Canadian Junior Girls' Championship before catching fire at the Ontario Junior Girls' Match Play, advancing to the tournament semi-finals in a strong field.

From the same home town as current Titan men's golfer Simon Reyers, Thorne capped her summer by firing rounds of 75 and 77 to qualify for her city district women's team event in 2010. She was a prominent fixture in Kingston district golf in 2009, winning the Kingston district girls' title and captaining the junior girls' district team. At Bayridge, she won her school's top female athlete award in 2008 and 2009 while playing on the golf, volleyball and tennis teams.

“We looked at the hard work Christina put in the past two summers and think that will translate immediately to college,” Anthony-Ryan said. “She knows what it takes already.”

Adamczak helped Mona Shores to its first state championship in girls' golf last fall. Individually, Adamczak finished fourth and earned First-Team All-State honors. She earned medalist honors at the Jenison Invitational, Ludington Invitational, Muskegon City Meet and O-K Black post-season tournament. She also had the second-best scoring average in the O-K Black Conference.

An All-Stater as a junior as well, Adamczak – a former high school teammate of current Titan junior Marni Achterhoffplaced third in the state finals and won the Muskegon City Meet and invitationals at Fremont and Ludington.

“Brooke is a competitor and has gotten better each season,” coach Anthony-Ryan said. “She will be in the mix here right away. She is a state champion and knows that feeling.”

Fresh off winning their first-ever Horizon League Championship, the Titans are playing in the the NCAA Central Regional Thursday through Saturday. They will graduate two seniors off this year's roster, co-captains Alex Aversa (LaSalle, ON/St. Thomas of Villanova) and two-time all-conference selection Rachel McHenry (Livonia, MI/Stevenson).
