Chang Makes Run At #HLGolf Championship, Settles For A Share Of First

Graduate senior Ariel Chang shared first at the #HLGolf Championship.
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (4/26/2026) -- Ariel Chang's pursuit of a conference title came up just short as the graduate senior went into a playoff and shared first place as the Horizon League Golf Championship came to an end on Monday.

Detroit Mercy finished in seventh with a 963 (318-316-329) at the par 73, 6038-yard El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida. It was the best score by the Titans at the league showdown since posting a 947 at the same course in 2022.

Chang was among the leaders right from the very beginning, tying for first with a 229 (75-74-80) and her best mark at the HL meet since she had a 229 as a sophomore. The runner-up finish was also the best by a Titan since Lindsey Lammers captured medalist honors in 2014.

She got off to a good start with three birdies and five pars in her first nine holes, but had some trouble on the front nine, knocking in three pars. She would end up going into a playoff, where she fell on the first hole.

Chang finished her career first in school history with a 76.05 average, 20 top-20 efforts, 16 top-five finishes, and one win. She also earned All-Tournament honors for the second time in her career as she tied for third in 2024.

Junior Gabriella Tapp was just outside the top 10, tying for 12th with a 237 (79-78-80), 15 strokes better than last season. Her final round saw her register two birdies and eight pars.

Sophomore Morgan Jones tallied a career-low 248 (81-80-87), a 10-shot improvement from last season, as she made a birdie and seven pars to tie for 25th.

Meanwhile, senior Taylor Kondel shared 27th with a 249 (83-84-82) as her final round saw her knock in two birdies and nine pars. She ended her career 10th in school history with an 81.83 average.
