KETTERING, Ohio -- It has been quite a few weeks for
Lindsey Lammers (Milan, MI/Milan) as the sophomore captured her second title in the last three weeks by winning a playoff at the Dayton Fall Invitational. The event was held on the par 70, 6,866-yard North Course at the NCR Country Club.
“It was just a great way to end the fall season,” said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. “Lindsey really made a statement here in the fall with her play.”
Detroit tied for fourth with a 629 (316, 313), trailing only Oakland (624), IUPUI (620) and tournament winner Cincinnati (605). As a team, UDM was second in par 4 scoring average (4.44), while also finishing in the top five with 87 pars and nine birdies.
Lammers was steady again improving on her 74 yesterday to shoot a 73 to finish with a 147, tying for first with Cincinnati's Olivia Dose. In the playoff, Lammers hit a drive to the right, but made up for it with a great second shot, carrying it over the bunker. After Dose made par, Lammers stood tall as she calmly sank her birdie putt to take home medalist accolades.
“I didn't think about last week at all. I just concentrated on today and put last week behind me and I was able to get it in,” said Lammers.
Lammers ended the two-day event with a tournament-best 23 pars, while also posting three birdies. She led the field in par 4 scoring with a five-over 4.21 average as she secured her second title of the fall season – she won the NIU Huskie Classic on Oct. 3 and lost on a playoff last week at the Detroit Titans Fall Classic.
Freshman
Olivia Richards (Waterford, Ontario/Simcoe Compostie) earned her second-straight top-10 finish tying for 10th with a 156 (78, 78).
“Olivia was in the 70's again and for a freshman to do what she has done in the fall is great,” said Ryan.
Sophomore
Christina Thorne (Kingston, ON/Bayridge) shared 30th with a 162 (82, 80), while junior
Collette Hansen's (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) 165 (82, 83) tied her for 42nd.
“I think we had a good fall and something to build and work on this winter,” said Ryan. “We know we need to get better, but we are in good shape heading into the spring.”
The Titans will return to action in the spring. A full schedule will be released in the near future.
