DETROIT -- The non-competitive fall softball season came to a close Sunday as the Titans played a doubleheader at Hillsdale.
While games are best used to offer coaches a chance to try new things in terms of players and positions while simulating real game situations, games also allow coaches to observe skills that come with a new season.
“One of the things we are going to bring to the table this year is more team speed. We are going to be able to do more offensively in terms of moving people around the bases, hitting and running, and taking extra bases,” said softball head coach Sunny Jones.
The two seven inning games saw the Titans use a combination of hits and that aforementioned speed in multiple inning rallies and defensive plays that showed progress from a season ago and optimism from the young players joining the team in 2012.
“These games are just a big step moving forward in our progress to build confidence within our program. We can get everyone playing time to give them experience and allow them to become more comfortable while letting them see that the game of college softball is a little bit faster but still the same game they know,” said Jones.
Sunday's games bring the six-game fall schedule comes to a close. The new season will begin in the spring with the schedule to be announced at the end of January.
