ON TAP
The Titans continue Horizon League play in the Windy City, playing Loyola in a Saturday matinee.  Detroit is looking to split the weekend series against the Chicago schools after a 63-59 loss at UIC Thursday.  The Titans are eyeing a win away from Calihan Hall before heading back home for a pair of home games next week.

SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
Loyola had its four-game win streak snapped with a 64-48 loss to Wright State on Thursday night to remain winless in league play. The Ramblers are 3-2 at home in the new Gentile Arena this season.  LU locks teams up defensively, allowing just 58.7 points per game to opponents but have managed to score just 56.1 points per contest.

THE SERIES WITH LOYOLA
The Ramblers and Titans are meeting for the 119th time in a series that dates back to 1923 and Loyola holds a 67-51 advantage in the all-time series. Detroit owns wins in each of the last five games between the schools, including three victories last season.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Detroit heads back home for a big week with a pair of ESPN3 games.  The Titans host Valparaiso on Friday, Jan. 6 at 8:00 p.m. then the Butler Bulldogs on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 4:00 p.m.  The next road trip is a Thursday-Saturday swing through Wisconsin with Green Bay and Milwaukee, respectively.

LAST TIME OUT
Host UIC survived for a 63-59 win over the Titans in at the UIC Pavilion Thursday night as Horizon League play resumed.  With the Titans trailing by two with 2.8 seconds left, junior Jason Calliste drew a foul but missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw opportunity and UIC held on.  Detroit was led by Senior Chase Simon's 14 points while senior Eli Holman added 12 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.  Sophomore Ray McCallum had nine points and six boards.  UIC got a game-high 21 from Talton to go along with five assists for the Flames.  Barnes chipped-in 14 with 10 more from Hayden Humes.

JESUIT BASKETBALL SPOTLIGHT
The Jesuit Basketball Spotlight project is a nationwide effort to identify basketball games between Jesuit schools and, through those games, bring greater positive awareness to Jesuit education and mission. This project was developed by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in response to member institutions wanting to spread the word of Jesuit higher education through the more than 90 basketball games in which Jesuit institutions play each other. Both Detroit and Loyola are Jesuit institutions.

BIG BEN THE KEY
Junior Ben Averkamp has been the Ramblers' leading scorer five times this season.  Four of those have produced wins for LU, including each of the last four times that his names appears atop the scoring column.  Averkamp averages 14.6 points per contest, sixth-highest in the Horizon League-- just ahead of teammate Walt Gibler's 13.8 average.

COUSY CANDIDATE
Sophomore Ray McCallum can add another honor to his quickly-building resume.  McCallum was named a Bob Cousy Award candidate, one of nearly 60 among all NCAA Divisions awarded to the top point guard in collegiate basketball.  Other notable candidates include fellow World University Games Team USA members Ashton Gibbs (Pitt) and Scoop Jardine (Syracuse) and Horizon League foe Kaylon Williams of Milwaukee. The list will be pared down to a final 20 by Jan. 1st, final ten a month later and then the final five as March approaches.
