Stefan Places In Top 10 As Detroit Takes Eighth In Florida Tournament

MIMS, Fla. -- Senior Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy) finished in the top 10 and the Titans ended a successful tournament hosting by placing in a tie for eighth at the Sunshine Spring Classic, held at the Walkabout Golf and Country Club.

Detroit finished the two-round event with a 676 (329-347), just one stroke out of seventh and seven away from placing in the top five.

"While we are certainly disappointed with today's performance, this was a learning opportunity and will not detract from our ultimate goal of a Horizon League Championship,” said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan.

Stefan led Detroit once again on Saturday carding an 84 to claim a share of seventh place with a 162 (78-84). Her four birdies in the event tied her most the third most on the weekend.

Sophomore Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) (81-89) and senior Marni Achterhoff (Muskegon, MI/Mona Shores) (84-86) tied for 27th place with a 170 score. Hansen tallied 20 pars in her 36 holes, while Achterhoff's three birdies helped Detroit post nine total in the tournament.

Lehigh won the inaugural Sunshine Spring Classic with a 658 (321-337), while Seminole State's Elia Folch Sola was the medalists shooting a 6-over 150 (76-74).

The Titans will stay in Florida for one more event as UDM competes in the Don Benbow Invitational, held at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, starting on Monday.
