Bryant Box Score
Indiana State Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Detroit started 2011 with a split on the first day of game play in Florida. The Titans started out with a 2-0 loss against Bryant and then captured a victory over Indiana State by a 2-1 score to start the year at 1-1.

In the first game against Bryant, Detroit fell 2-0. Freshman Erin Huddleston (Normal, IL/Normal West) threw a complete game in her first career start. Huddleston went the distance scattering six hits over seven innings and punching out eight Bryant batters and only walking four.

In the second contest, the Titans picked up the first win of 2011 with a 2-1 victory over Indiana State as more freshman firsts came from the young Detroit squad.

Freshman Karyn McCarty (Allen Park, MI/Cabrini) made her first collegiate start in the circle allowing only five hits, two walks, and striking out four batters en route to her first collegiate win and complete game.

The Titan bats plated two runs in the third. The inning started as McCarty had a lead-off walk and junior Rachel Copple (Dearborn Heights, MI/Cabrini) hit an RBI double placing two runners in scoring position. After a pair of outs, Huddleston recorded her first RBI with a long fly ball to center field. The ball dropped in and scored both runs to take the lead.

Copple would finish 2-3 in the game and freshman Sara Cupp (Hartland, MI/Milford) recorded her first college hit while junior transfer Whitney Stratton (Muskegon, MI/Fruitport) also had a double for the Titans.

The Titans will take on Lehigh and Pennsylvania tomorrow with the first game beginning at 9:00 a.m.
