KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Detroit continued its 2011 season earlier today with a pair of games against Lehigh and Pennsylvania. The Titans would fall in both games dropping a 7-3 score to Lehigh and a 7-4 decision to Pennsylvania as Detroit now sits at 1-3 overall on the young season.

In the first game against Lehigh, the Titans jumped out in front in the second inning with a solo blast from freshman Katelyn Steffel (Defiance, OH/Defiance), the first of her career. Steffel finished the day 3-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.

In the circle for Detroit saw another first as freshman Julia Maksym (Manistee, MI/Manistee) made her debut. Maksym went the distance giving up eight hits and two walks while striking out two. Seven runs were charged to Maksym, but team errors caused four of those runs to be unearned.

Freshman Erin Huddleston (Normal, IL/Normal West) added an RBI double giving the Titans another run. Junior Renee Zaccagni (Macomb, MI/Dakota) and freshmen Karyn McCarty (Allen Park, MI/Cabrini) and Alyssa Gietl (Plymouth, MI/Ladywood) also had hits on the day for Detroit. It was the first collegiate hit for Gietl. The team's final run of the contest came off the bat of freshman Sara Cupp (Hartland, MI/Milford) with a fielder's choice RBI.

In game two against Penn, the Titans were down two after three with a pair of single runs in both the first and third innings but Detroit fought back in the fourth putting up a three-spot to take a 3-2 lead. McCarty started it by cashing in a run with an RBI single to score Zaccagni from third. Junior Rachel Copple (Dearborn Heights, MI/Cabrini) brought in McCarty and freshman Shelby Long (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt) with a two-RBI single down the right field line.

Copple finished the game 2-2 adding another single in the third and a hit-by-pitch in the sixth.

A four-run bottom half of the fifth was too much for Detroit to overcome as Penn totaled six hits including a three-run home run blast in the frame.

Detroit's final run came as Gietl scored after she connected on a single up the middle and she advanced to second on a fielding error. Copple had a hit-by-pitch and Steffel reached second advancing on an error that would score Gietl.

McCarty pitched 6.0 innings allowing seven runs (six earned), one walk, and two strikeouts against Penn.

Detroit will play two more contests tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. The Titans will first match-up with South Dakota followed by Holy Cross after the first game ends.

Information from games this week will be posted online as scores and stats become available. You can follow the Titans on Twitter by clicking here or search for Titan updates under the name DetroitTitans) as scores will be posted there first.
