ORLANDO, Fla. – The women's golf team started its spring break trip with a victory as Detroit defeated IPFW, 341-406, in the Titan Challenge, held at the Orange Tree Golf Club in Orlando. The course was a 6,310-yard par 72.

“We were pleased to win, but showed some rust,” said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. “Alainna and Lindsey were both stronger on the back nine. We'll take some positives from today on a tough golf course, but we have lots of work to do going forward."

Detroit took the top four sports, and five of the six best scores, on the afternoon. The defending Horizon League championships were led by event medalists Alainna Stefan (Dearborn, MI/Mercy). The senior totaled an 83 (45-38) on the day, but showed great improvement on the last nine holes with a 38.

Freshman Lindsey Lammers (Milan, MI/Milan) and sophomore Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) tied for second with an 86, while junior Liz Zouzal (Windsor, ON/Holy Names) carded an 89.

IPFW was paced by Taylor Lamphier's 94.

Detroit will continue to practice as it prepares to host the Sunshine Spring Classic. The event, held at the Walkabout Golf and Country Club in Mims, FL, will start on Friday, Mar. 11.
