CHICAGO -- Freshman Erin Huddleston (Normal, IL/Normal West) generated three hits and two RBI on the day as the Titans beat the weather playing a pair of games against UIC Sunday afternoon.

Detroit (5-25, 0-11 Horizon League) fell 7-4 in the first contest and 3-0 in the second to UIC (18-17, 8-5 HL).

In the opener, UIC jumped out to an early lead with a single run in the first inning and five more in the second.

Detroit would hop right back into the game plating four runs in the top of the third. Freshman Karyn McCarty (Allen Park, MI/Cabrini) led off with a double and moved up to third on an error with junior Whitney Stratton (Muskegon, MI/Fruitport) at the plate. Freshman Katelyn Steffel (Defiance, OH/Defiance) walked to load the bases bringing another freshman Sara Cupp (Hartland, MI/Milford) to the dish.

Cupp would bring McCarty in without a swing of the bat as she was plunked by the pitcher taking the RBI and putting the Titans on the board.

Huddleston then continued the rally as she swatted a ball out to right center field for a single that scored both Stratton and Steffel for Huddleston's team-high 14th and 15 RBI.

Two batters later, junior Renee Zaccagni (Macomb, MI/Dakota) would walk to reload the bases and Detroit scored its second run of the day without a hit as Cupp came in from third on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 6-4.

The Titans threatened again in the fifth with back-to-back singles from Huddleston and freshman Shelby Long (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt), but both were left stranded as Detroit could not solve UIC sophomore pitcher Devin Miller.

Miller came on to pitch with one out in the Titan fourth inning of the first game and struck out nine batters.

She then started game two and over seven innings, struck out 13 and allowed just three Titans on base.

Huddleston, Cupp, and McCarty all collected singles for Detroit but the Titan bats were silenced in the second contest.

For McCarty, her two hits on the day gave her a seven-game on-base streak. During that time she has hit .500 (7-14) and has a home run and three doubles.

In the circle in that second affair, sophomore Anna Bondy (Newport, MI/Carleton-Airport) threw six innings allowing just three runs (two earned) and four hits while punching out four Flames in a very effective outing keeping the Titans close.

Detroit will look ahead to Wednesday as the Ttians will head to Bowling Green to take on the Falcons in a doubleheader slated for 3:00 p.m.
