LOUDONVILLE, NY – Six Titans scored a pair of goals and the nation's second longest home winning streak came to an end as the Titans downed Siena, 13-11, on Saturday afternoon.

Detroit's (3-8, 2-1 MAAC) 13-11 victory put a halt to Siena's (7-3, 1-1 MAAC) 13-game home winning streak, a number that trailed only Duke's 14. It also ended the Saints' 20-game MAAC winning streak, which included 10-straight at home.

Senior Matt Gregson (Flint, MI/Powers Catholic), sophomore Chris Nemes (Novi, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) and freshmen Shayne Adams (St. Catharines, ON/Denis Morris), Matt Lining (Troy, MI/Troy Athens), Alex Maini (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) and Troy Dennis (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), each netted two goals. Sophomore Jordan Houtby (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross Secondary) added the other.

Sophomore A.J. Levell (Columbus, OH/Dublin Scioto) tallied 16 saves – including seven in the first - and Detroit outworked the Saints with a 55-29 advantage on ground balls. Houtby led the way with nine ground balls, while Adams picked up a career-high eight. A few other Titans also worked hard on the loose balls as junior Scott Harris (Saline, MI/Saline) had a career-high five, freshman Tom Masterson (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas CCS) four, while rookie Max Zwolan (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) tied his career best with four.

“It was just a team effort today and we executed a great game plan,” said head coach Matt Holtz. “A.J. played, great. I have never seen a goalie play as good as he did today.”

The game was tied at 6-all heading into the third quarter when the Titans took control of the game by scoring five-straight goals, including shutting out Siena in the third period, 4-0. In the third, Detroit outshot the Saints, 15-2, won 5-of-6 face-offs, forced eight turnovers and collected 12 of the quarter's 14 ground balls.

It was the freshmen who gave UDM the lead as Lining started the offensive barrage with an unassisted goal just a little more than a minute into the second half. Maini would follow a few minutes later and after both teams held each other scoreless for six minutes, the red, white and blue saw Dennis and Adams end the period with markers to take a 10-6 lead.

Detroit kept its intensity up in the fourth as Nemes made a great fake and found Maini, who beat the keeper with 13:03 left to put UDM up, 11-6.

Siena - the preseason favorite to win the MAAC and who was receiving votes in the latest USILA coaches poll - did have a late run left in them cutting the Titan lead to two, 12-10, with 2:53 left but sophomore Brandon Davenport Grosse Pointe Woods, MI/GP North) – who ended the game 12-of-24 in face offs – came up with some big wins down the stretch and Adams sealed the win with his nation leading 27th goal of the season as UDM earned the 13-11 win.

Detroit took an early 1-0 lead right from the start as Nemes tallied a goal at the 13:55 mark in the first. Siena would take a 3-2 lead with 4:20 left in the first, but that was the last lead the Saints had as Detroit was in front of the game was tied the rest of the way.

The Titans saw Siena commit 25 turnovers, with Detroit causing 10 of them. Houtby led the way in that category with three, while sophomore Jamie Hebden (Farmington Hills, MI/Brother Rice) and junior Jason McDonald (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) caused two.

The triumph also marked Detroit's first road victory as UDM had dropped its first 23 away from the Motor City.

The Titans will start a two-game home stand next Saturday when they host Manhattan. First face-off is slated for Noon at Titan Field.
