BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Titans (5-27, 0-10 Horizon League) made the trip to Bowling Green Wednesday for a pair of matches against the Falcons (7-24, 1-9 MAC) and the home team took the opener 14-0 in five innings and managed an 8-3 victory in the second contest.

Five Titan errors contributed to a 14-0 defeat in the opener at Bowling Green.

The Falcons scored in each of the first four innings, including five runs on three errors in the third en route to the defeat. Junior Renee Zaccagni (Macomb, MI/Dakota) earned a walk for Detroit, placing her in a tie for a team-best 15th this season, and Shelby Long (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt) also drew two walks.

In the second contest, Detroit started out strong cashing in two runs early. Junior Whitney Stratton (Muskegon, MI/Fruitport) led off the frame with a walk and junior Rachel Copple (Dearborn Heights, MI/Cabrini) also belted a hit in the first inning for the second straight game. Two batters later, Long would single up the middle to bring in Stratton. A passed ball with freshman Karyn McCarty (Allen Park, MI/Cabrini) at the plate scored Copple giving Detroit a 2-0 lead.

In the third, with Detroit up 2-1, Bowling Green runners were on first and second with one out and McCarty in the circle. Sophomore Paige Berger of the Falcons came to the plate and hit a fly ball to deep left field. The ball appeared as if it would carry out for a home run, but the wind held the ball up in the air staying in the park for a single and the runners advancing just one base. McCarty struck out the next batter swinging and then a second fly ball was sent to left field with the wind factoring into its flight path as well. The wind then dropped the ball and Titan left fielder Hannah Klenk (Hamilton, MI/Hamilton) made a shoestring catch to end the threat with Detroit still in the lead 2-1.

The bottom of the fourth resulted in four runs for Bowling Green as an error started a stretch of three straight walks with the bases loaded to give the home team a 5-2 lead.

Detroit took a run back in the top of the fifth as the frame led off with a Stratton walk. A sacrifice moved her over to second and a single up the middle from freshman Sara Cupp (Hartland, MI/Milford) moved her to third. A wild pitch brought Stratton in to make it 5-3.

The Falcons added two runs in the fifth and a final run in the sixth to reach the 8-3 final.

Detroit was scheduled to travel to Green Bay this weekend for three games however due to snow in Green Bay, a decision will be made by Thursday afternoon as to the date, time, and location of those games.
