Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score

Mount Pleasant, Mich. -- Freshman Karyn McCarty (Allen Park, MI/Cabrini) had three hits on the day for Detroit (5-21) but the Titans dropped a pair of five inning games, 10-0 in the first and 11-0 in the second, at Central Michigan (16-12) Wednesday afternoon.

In the opener, two errors led to a nine-run second inning for the host Central Michigan. Freshman catcher Shelby Long (St. Peters, MO/Fort Zumwalt) had just picked off the leadoff runner at first and then a dropped fly ball led to the next nine Chippewas reaching base. McCarty had the lone Titan sending a double out to right field to lead off the fifth.

Junior Whitney Stratton (Muskegon, MI/Fruitport) had a chance to prolong her hit streak to 12 games as she sent a short fly ball to right and the two fielders nearly collided. The Central Michigan second baseman was able to come up with a diving catch to make the play and also avoid the contact. Stratton was one of four Titans with a walk and increasing her streak to 12 straight games reaching first.

Game two saw Detroit stay close with the Chippewas early as the home team was held to a pair of runs in both the first and third innings. Freshman Julia Maksym (Manistee, MI/Manistee) was in the circle and
allowed four runs on six hits and one walk through the first three innings. The fourth inning saw Central Michigan pick up seven runs and take control of the game as an error, three extra base hits, including two home runs, served as the catalyst for the big inning.

The best chance for the Titans came in the third as McCarty led off with her second hit of the day right up the middle and then moved up to second with a sacrifice bunt from freshman Katelyn Steffel (Defiance, OH/Defiance). After a pop up, Stratton collected her 13th hit in her last 13 games as she singled to left to move McCarty to third but a ground out ended the threat.

McCarty added another hit in the Detroit fifth and Long and junior Renee Zaccagni (Macomb, MI/Dakota) also collected hits in the second game.

Detroit will continue its road trip as the team will head to Youngstown State Tuesday and Wednesday for more Horizon League action. The Titans will play a single game Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Wednesday with the first game slated for 3:00 p.m.
