NORMAL, Ill. -- Sophomore Lindsey Lammers (Milan, MI/Milan) recorded her eighth career top-20 finish as the Titans ended play at their season opener, the Redbird Invitational, on Sunday at the Weibring Golf Club.

“I thought we played well on a good course,” said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. “We improved and saw the scores go down today.”

Detroit posted its best round of the tournament with a 320 on the day, ending in 13th place with a 978 (328, 330, 320) score.

After recovering from an 80 in round one, Lammers came back with a 74 in round two and then ended the tournament with a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 11th place with a 229 card. Both her finish and her score were better than the share of 15th place, 236 total she posted at the Redbird Invitational last year.

Playing as an individual, junior Allison Sears (Clio, MI/Powers) was able to set a new career mark as she tallied a four-over 76 on the final 18 to finish with a 244 (83, 86, 76), ending in 49th place. Her three-round score also set a new career best.

“Lindsey looks like she is right where she needs to be,” said Ryan. “Allison really played well. She went back to her old swing coach and her scores improve this summer and she came out here and really played great.”

Junior Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) shot an 80 in round three to take a share of 57th with a 246 (79, 87, 80), while sophomore Christina Thorne (Kingston, ON/Bayridge) was 65th with a career 54-hole best 249 (85, 81, 83).

Detroit will have a few weeks off before hitting the links again with the NIU Huskie Classic, held at the Kishwaukee Country Club on Oct. 2-3.
