Schaub Seventh-Inning Homer Helps Detroit Split at Dayton

BOX SCORES
Game 1 - Detroit 5, Dayton 3
Game 2 - Dayton 5, Detroit 1

DAYTON, Ohio--  A seventh-inning homer by Alyssa Schaub in the opener helped lead visiting Detroit to a doubleheader split at Dayton in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.  Schaub's dinger broke a three-all tie in the final inning for the Titans' third straight win.

GAME ONE
The Titans (6-13) got on the board early as Schaub doubled to leadoff the game and later came around on an RBI groundout by Sara Cupp.

Two innings later, Vanessa Garcia laced a two-run single to right center and Detroit enjoyed a 3-0 lead through two-and-a-half innings.  Host Dayton (10-13) got one back in the bottom of the third and eventually re-tied the score in the fifth, plating a pair of unearned runs.

In the seventh with the score still tied, Kat Hoffman led off by beating out an infield single to set the stage for Schaub's dramatics.  Schaub then belted a 0-2 offering over the left-centerfield wall for her second homer of the season and a 5-3 Detroit advantage.

Julia Maksym made it hold up-- earning her third straight win-- by retiring the Flyers in order in the home half of the seventh.  She went the distance, allowing just six hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Schaub, Garcia and Hoffman all finished the opener with a pair of hits while Alyssa Gietl added another in the win.

GAME TWO
Schaub continued swinging a hot bat and opened the nightcap with an infield single, part of three straight Titans to reach base, but the Flyers wriggled free unscathed.  UD posted two in the bottom half of the inning to take its first lead of the afternoon.

With the bases loaded in the second and two down, Cupp worked an 0-2 count full and then shot an RBI single through the left side of the infield to slice the lead in half.

The Flyers scored a single run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead.  UD went on to post the win as Detroit's six hits all came in the first four innings.

Schaub again led the Titan offense with two hits and Cupp registered a pair as well to go along with her RBI.  Karyn McCarty took the loss, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing three runs.

The Titans will host local rival Oakland Wednesday afternoon at Buysse Ballpark in their home opener.  First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
