OCOEE, Fla. -- The spring season is not even a day old, but the Detroit women's golf team has already picked up where it left off in the fall with a pair of wins at the Titan Quad Challenge, held on Monday afternoon. The 18-hole event was played at the 6,100-yard, Par 72 Forest Lake Golf Club in Ocoee, Fla.

Detroit won the four-team affair with a 319, fishing with a three-stroke advantage over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (322). Creighton was third (337) and IPFW (349) was fourth on the afternoon.

Freshman Olivia Richards (Waterford, Ontario/Simcoe Compostie) was the medalist for her first collegiate win. Richards tallied a 4-over 76 on the day, edging out Titan teammate junior Christina Thorne (Kingston, ON/Bayridge) by one stroke. Thorne's 77 did match a season low she had back at the Detroit Fall Classic in October.

It was the second win of the year for UDM and the fourth top-5 finish in five events. It was also the third victory by a Titan on the 2011-12 campaign and the sixth time in the last 12 tournaments dating back to last year that a Titan golfer has come away with medalist honors.

Junior Allison Sears (Clio, MI/Powers) tied for sixth with an 81, while junior Collette Hansen (West Olive, MI/Grand Haven) shot an 85.

Detroit will be back in action on Thursday when it hosts the Second Annual Sunshine Spring Classic at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando. That event is scheduled for two rounds with 18 on Thursday and Friday.
