DAYTON, Ohio-- Wright State used a solid pitching performance from Chelsea Contant to earn an 8-0 victory Sunday afternoon in Horizon League play at WSU Softball Field. Contant held the Titans to just two hits in earning the win.
WSU (14-17, 4-2) posted a pair of runs in the second inning to garner the early advantage. The Raiders would add to their lead in the fourth with four runs, three coming unearned as Detroit struggled to get out of the inning. WSU got its final two runs via a throwing error in the sixth to seal it.
Detroit's (7-22, 0-6 Horizon) Rachel Copple roped a pair of doubles to give her a team-high-tying six on the season. But, it was all Contant would allow on the afternoon as she went the distance, throwing six innings and striking out five.
The Titans open a five-game homestand with games on three consecutive days, beginning Thursday. Detroit welcomes IPFW for a non-league douleheader Thursday before a Horizon League three-game series with Green Bay on Friday and Saturday.
