CHICAGO -- Due to heavy storms and lightning in the area, Sunday's softball game at Loyola was cancelled.
The game was the season finale for Detroit who will say goodbye to its two seniors in
Rachel Copple and
Renee Zaccagni.
The rainout also put an end to sophomore
Sara Cupp's pursuit of a Titan record. She needed just five RBI to tie a Titan single-season record that was set in 1990 by Gina Menta with 38. Cupp ended the year with 33 and led Detroit in a number of categories including average (.287), slugging (.503), on base percentage (.396), hits (41), home runs (9), walks (20) and total bases (72).
She was also named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District ® Softball Team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Cupp is a nursing major with a cumulative 3.91 GPA.
