Box Score SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (2/24/2013) -- The UDM softball team dropped its final game of the Blues City Classic to UMKC, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Greenbrook Park.
Junior
Sara Cupp went 2-for-3 and
Sam Henderson hit an RBI single in the top of the second to plate
Karyn McCarty for Detroit's only run. McCarty (2-1) was charged with the loss after allowing four earned runs on seven hits and
Julia Maksym pitched three innings allowing just two hits and one unearned run.
Detroit (2-8) got on the board first when McCarty doubled to the right-center field gap and Henderson followed with a single to right to bring in McCarty. UDM threatened again in the top of the third with a runner on second and one out, but
Samantha Wolschleger was caught trying to steal to end Detroit's scoring chance.
The Kangaroos (6-7) scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third and added four more in the bottom of the fourth to put the score at 6-1 with three innings left. UDM got on base in the sixth and again in the seventh, but poor base running took the Titans off the base paths.
After the game,
Sara Cupp was named Second Team All-Tournament after batting .313 with five hits, two home runs and two RBI.
Detroit will now get ready to head to Kissimmee, Fla., next week, where the Titans will play eight times in the Rebel Spring Games from Mar. 2-9. UDM opens the event with games against La Salle and South Dakota on Saturday, Mar. 2.
