KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/9/13) –
The University of Detroit Mercy softball team ended its trip to Kissimmee, Fla. with a pair of losses to North Dakota and St. Francis on Saturday at the Rebel Spring Games.

It took the Titans and the Fighting Sioux (3-10) nine innings to decide their game, which ended in a 5-4 victory for the Sioux. UDM fell to St. Francis (11-7) in the second game, by a final tally of 6-0.

Against North Dakota, six Titans recorded hits with Sara Cupp, Katy Severson, and Dani Holmes all recording two hits each. Kat Hoffman and Christa McGahuey both pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one earned run each.

North Dakota got on the scoreboard first when a run came across the plate on a sacrifice fly to center field. Detroit answered in its half of the second when Kayla Kostich singled off the third base bag to drive Severson in and Alyssa Schaub singled through the middle of the infield to bring Sam Henderson across home and give Detroit its first lead of the game, 2-1.

UND tied the game with a home run in the top of the fourth, but UDM retook the lead when Samantha Wolschleger came across the plate on a passed ball to put the score at 3-2 in favor of the Titans. The Sioux would tie it again in the bottom of the fifth with another solo home run to knot it at 3-3 with two innings remaining in regulation.

After no runs were scored in the sixth or seventh innings, Detroit plated another run on a passed ball to take a slim 4-3 lead half way through the eighth. North Dakota tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly and took the victory on an RBI single up the middle to bring the final tally to 5-4.

St. Francis' Ketarah Devries shutdown UDM's offense in game two allowing only one hit in the 6-0 decision. The Red Flash jumped out to an early lead with four runs on three hits in the top of the first. They added two more in the top of the seventh inning to bring the final score to 6-0. Sara Cupp recorded the only hit for Detroit with a hard single to lead off the top of the fourth that bounced off the shortstop's chest and rolled away for the hit.

Detroit (2-16) will travel to Morehead State on Wednesday for a doubleheader against the Eagles on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. ET before traveling to Harrisburg, Va. to participate in the JMU Duke's Invitational to be played from March 15-17.
