Titans Drop Two at Rebel Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (3/5/13) -The UDM softball team dropped a pair of games to Grambling State and the University of Tennessee Martin on Tuesday afternoon in Kissimmee, Fla. at the Rebel Games.

The Titans dropped game one to Grambling, 6-3, and fell to UT-Martin, 11-2 (6 inn.), in the second game. Kayla Kostich went 2-3 with a run and an RBI in game one as eight Titans recorded hits in the contest with UTM.

Anna Bondy (0-1) was charged with the loss against the Tigers and Karyn McCarty (2-3) was charged with the loss against the Seahawks.

Versus Grambling, UDM fell behind early giving up five runs in the first two innings. Detroit tried to mount a comeback in the fifth as Julia Maksym hit an RBI single to score Kostich. McCarty then hit a sacrifice fly to right, and Kostich grounded out to plate Samantha Wolschleger to put the final score at 6-3 in favor of the Tigers. Kostich went 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored and Maksym was 1-2 with an RBI against GSU.
 
In the second game against UT-Martin, Eight Titans recorded a hit, but they could not capitalize on scoring chances, leaving eight runners on base.
 
Detroit scored an early run in the top of the first when Sara Cupp hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Alyssa Schaub. The Seahawks responded with two runs on two singles to take a one-run lead after an inning of play. After six straight batters were retired, UDM's Hannah Klenk singled to left to plate Allayna Stolp and tie the game at two runs a side.
 
UTM's offense awoke scoring five runs in the bottom of the third, adding another run in the fourth, and a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the contest to rest.

Detroit will continue play at the Rebel Games when it will face Sacred Heart (9:00 a.m.) and La Salle (11:00 a.m.) Tuesday in Kissimmee, Fla.
