FORT WAYNE, Ind. (4/1/2013) -- It may not have been a win, but it was another finish in the top half of the standings as the Detroit women's golf team earned runner-up at the IPFW Spring Invitational, held on the Brookwood Golf Club.
“It was not the greatest conditions out there,” said head coach
Terri Anthony-Ryan. “It was cold and I think at one point our towels froze, but I was happy with the way we grinded it out.”
UDM began the blustery spring day one stroke in back of first, but was unable to make up the difference tallying a 315 on Tuesday for a 624 (309-315) total, eight shots in back of Indianapolis (616).
The same three Titans who were in the top 10 after the first round finished in the top 10, with senior
Collette Hansen carding a 4-over 76 to place fourth with a 153 (77-76). It was her third top-5 finish on the season and the 13th top-10 mark in her career.
“Collette played really well and was very consistent,” said Coach Ryan.
Junior
Lindsey Lammers tied for fifth with a 154 (75-79) and has now been in the top-5 in all five events she has competed in on the season, while junior
Christina Thorne shared 10th recording a 156 (77-79).
The Titans did finish ahead of two Horizon League teams in Valparaiso (644) and Loyola (649) as well as in front of local-rival Oakland (638).
Detroit will be back in action next week, Apr. 8-9, when the red, white and blue take part in the Purple Eagles Invitational, held at the Niagara Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.
