DETROIT (4/13/13) – The Detroit softball team had four runs on seven hits against Loyola on Saturday at Buysse Ballpark, but the Ramblers' 14 hits propelled them by the Titans, 8-4.
UDM is now 4-30 (1-6 HL) and Loyola is 17-13 (5-2 HL) after this game. The two teams will play a doubleheader at Buysse Ballpark on Sunday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Alyssa Schaub went 2-3 with two runs and
Sara Cupp had an RBI double in the fourth, but the Ramblers scored in three consecutive innings to defeat the Titans.
The Ramblers hit an RBI double in the top of the second and hit a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to go up, 3-0, after three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth with two outs and runners on first and second, Cupp doubled to left field to bring Schaub across the plate and cut the lead down to 3-1.
Loyola struck again, plating three runs in the fifth to go up 6-1. UDM Responded with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
Vanessa Garcia singled and Schaub doubled to right to put runners on second and third with one out.
Sam Henderson would draw a walk to load the bases. The Titans scored two runs when the Loyola's shortstop let a ball go between her legs to bring Schaub and Garcia across the plate and cut the lead to 6-3.
LUC led off the top of the sixth with a home run to extend its lead to 7-3. In the bottom half of the inning,
Katelyn Steffel singled to center and advanced to second on an error.
Julia Maksym singled up the middle and the centerfielder made the second error in the inning to allow Steffel to score. Loyola had an RBI double in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 8-4.
Detroit challenged the Ramblers with a hit and an error to put runners on first and second with one out. Loyola stuck out the next batter and then caught a line drive hit back to the pitcher to end the game.
The two teams will return to the diamond and finish the series with a doubleheader set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Buysse Ballpark on Sunday.
