BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (4/14/2013) --
Sophomore Olivia Richards held on for her third collegiate win and the Detroit women's golf team completely dominated the field by 15 strokes as the Titans claimed their eighth victory of the season on Sunday at Bowling Green's Dolores Black Falcon Invitational.

“We wanted to end the regular season strong and we were able to beat a team in Indianapolis that beat us by a few strokes two weeks ago and beat Bowling Green on its home course,” said head coach Terri Anthony-Ryan. “It never got above 40 any of the days and to go out and play the way we did today was great.”

Detroit came into the final round tied for first with host Bowling Green, but posted a 296 – the only round in the tournament under 300 by any of the 16 teams – as it won with a 618 (322-296), 15 shots better then Indianapolis (633) and 17 in front of BGSU (635). The 296 on Sunday was the fifth time this season the Titans went under 300 and the fourth best round in school history.

Richards was also tied for first after the opening 18, but carded an even-par 72 in the second round to win by four shots with a 149 (77-72). It was her third career victory and the second of the season as she won the Titan Tri-Match back in March.

“Olivia was awesome out there,” said Coach Ryan. “She really came into this weekend looking to end the season strong and she did just that.”

Junior Lindsey Lammers made a run at Richards for medalist honors tallying three birdies in her last four holes to finish runner-up with a 2-over 74 and a 153 (79-74) for the two-day event. She ended the regular season with top-five finishes in all seven tournaments she played in, including two wins and a pair of second-place performances.

“Lindsey played great all year and I don't know if I have ever seen a player finish in the top five in every tournament,” added Coach Ryan.

Seniors Collette Hansen and Allison Sears each were in the top 10, tying for ninth with a 158 (83-75) after both shot a 3-over 75 on the day. It was Hansen's 15th career top-10 effort and the eighth for Sears.

Junior Christina Thorne also recorded a 75 to finish tied for 13th with a 159 (84-75) scorecard, her eighth top-20 finish on the season, which includes seven top-10 marks.

The win was the eighth on the year for the Titans – and they have played in only 10 tournaments. Detroit had just nine tournament victories in its program history entering the 2012-13 season, but with three in the fall and now five in the spring, UDM has the potential to equal that in one year with the Horizon League Championship still left on the schedule.

The 2013 HL Championship will take place from Apr. 26-28 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The tournament will be 54 holes with 18 played each day. Detroit's only conference title in its nine-year history was in 2010.
