DETROIT (4/2/13) – Allayna Stolp recorded three hits on the day, but the Detroit softball team dropped two games in its home opener to Bowling Green on Monday afternoon.
BGSU jumped on the board early in the first game, with three of its first four batters hitting home runs in the top of the first. The Falcons would add three more runs in the top of the third to make it 6-0 after three innings.
UDM had runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the fifth when
Dani Holmes hit a ball through the right side to plate
Christa McGahuey. BGSU added three more runs in the top of the sixth but the Titans had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom half of the inning. Kostich crossed the plate on a wild pitch, a strikeout and ground out ended the inning with only one run scored.
Detroit added another run in the seventh when Holmes doubled and then scored on a ground ball and brought the final tally to 12-3.
Stolp went 2-4 in game two and
Kayla Kostich hit a home run but UDM fell to Bowling Green by a score of 9-1.
The Falcons scored eight runs before the Titans got on the board. Kostich led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run to left field to get UDM on the board. BGSU added another run in the bottom of the seventh to bring the final score to 9-1.
UDM is now 3-22 on the year and will travel to Mount Pleasant to play a doubleheader with the Chippewas of Central Michigan.
