UDM Drops Doubleheader at Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio (4/27/13) – The Detroit Softball team lost a doubleheader to Wright State in Dayton on Saturday Night. WSU took game one 8-1 in five innings and won the nightcap in walk-off fashion with a triple in the bottom of the seventh to steal game two, 6-5.
 
Karyn McCarty went 3-7 with an RBI on the day and Sara Cupp went 3-4 with two RBI in game two. Detroit is now 5-39 (2-15 HL) and Wright State improves to 13-31 (8-9 HL).
 
After two scoreless innings in game one, Kat Hoffman reached base on a walk after facing 13 pitches in the plate appearance. A pair of errors loaded the bases with two outs when Kate Steffel hit a bloop singles to right field to bring Hoffman and Alyssa Schaub across the plate. Hannah Klenk scored when McCarty forced an error on a hard ground ball to third to take a 3-0 lead after three innings.
 
A Raiders error, a hit by Katy Severson and a walk loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fourth. Cupp doubled to left field to bring a pair of runs across the plate and extend UDM's lead to 5-0.
 
Wright State answered with two runs of its own in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at five all.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, WSU led off with a base hit to right field. After two fielder's choices, the Raiders' hit a triple down the right field line to score the game-winning run.
 
Wright State got on the board early in game one with six runs on eight hits in the first two innings.
 
In the top of the fourth, with a runner on first and second with one out, McCarty singled up the middle to bring Hannah Klenk across the plate. WSU responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs on three hits to take an 8-1 lead.
 
The Raiders had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the sixth, Bondy was able to force two ground balls and the defense threw out a pair of runners at home.
 
The series finale will be played on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at WSU Softball field.
