DAYTON, Ohio (4/28/13) – The Detroit softball team dropped the series finale to Wright State, 10-2, on Sunday afternoon at the WSU Softball Field.
Sara Cupp went 3-for-3 with an RBI, a double and a run scored and
Katelyn Steffel was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly, a single and a run scored. Detroit is now 5-40 (2-16 HL) on the season, while Wright State improved to 14-31 (9-9 HL).
Detroit started the day swinging a hot bat as back-to-back doubles in the top of the first by
Alyssa Schaub and Cupp brought one run across the plate, and a sacrifice fly by Steffel would later score Cupp as UDM took an early 2-0 lead.
Wright Sate answered with seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first to jump out in front, 7-2.
After the Raiders added another run in the bottom of the fourth, Schaub led-off the fifth inning with a walk and Cupp doubled to right center, but Schaub was called out at home on a questionable call. Later on in the inning, Detroit had runners on first and third with two outs, but
Christa McGahuey popped up to end the Titans' scoring chance.
WSU then added another run in the bottom of the fifth to bring the final score to 10-2.
Detroit will be back on the field on Wednesday as the Titans head to Indiana for a doubleheader against IPFW before traveling to Green Bay for the season finale on Saturday and Sunday.
