MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (4/3/2013) -- The Detroit softball team took a road trip up north on Wednesday, but the Titans ran into some hot bats as UDM fell 9-1 and 13-3 in a doubleheader at Central Michigan.

Sara Cupp led the Titans (3-24) offensively by going 5-for-5 on the day with two doubles, while Kayla Kostich went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in game two.

CMU (15-11) jumped on the board early in game one as the Chippewas scored at least a run in every inning. In the top of the second, Cupp led off with a double to left field and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Katelyn Steffel, but CMU was able to retire the next two batters to spoil the early scoring chance for the Titans.

After Central Michigan put three runs on the board in the bottom of the second, Vanessa Garcia opened the third inning with a double. Garcia would later cross the plate on a fielding error by the Chippewas.

Central Michigan answered with a run in the bottom of the third and then added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and a home run in the bottom of the sixth to bring the final tally to 9-1.

In game two, CMU scored seven runs in the first two innings to take control early.

The Titans nearly cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth as Kostich stepped up to the plate with two runners on and blasted a three-run home run over the left field fence to pull the red, white and blue within, 7-3. CMU would not let Detroit get any closer adding to its lead in the fourth before settling for the 13-3 win.

UDM did pound out nine hits in the second part of the twinbill with Cupp going 3-for-3 and Kostich 2-for-3. Dani Holmes, Alyssa Gietl, Sam Henderson and Kat Hoffman also all had a hit in the contest.

UDM will open Horizon League play with a three-game series against UIC on Saturday and Sunday at Buysse Ballpark with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at Noon and a single game on Sunday also at Noon.
